Olivia Hopkinson

Olivia Hopkinson

PhD student in Pharmacoepidemiology, UCL School of Pharmacy

Olivia is a PhD student in Pharmacoepidemiology at the UCL School of Pharmacy, supervised by Dr Wallis Lau and Professor Li Wei and funded by PharmAlliance. She built MINT-D as part of her PhD, combining her interests in medication safety, electronic health records, dementia research, and data visualisation.

Her research uses electronic health records to investigate the safety of medication use in older adults living with dementia, with a particular focus on psychotropic medicines. Olivia holds an MSc in Health Data Science from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a BA in Statistics from Harvard University.

Her broader interests include pharmacoepidemiology, causal inference, medication safety, dementia, and the use of interactive visualisation tools to communicate complex health data.

Dr Wallis CY Lau

Lecturer in Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety, UCL School of Pharmacy

Wallis Lau is a Lecturer in Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety at UCL School of Pharmacy. She is a statistician by background, completing her PhD in pharmacoepidemiology to examine the effectiveness and safety of direct oral anticoagulants among patients with atrial fibrillation.

She uses large electronic databases from across the globe to answer important clinical questions regarding the effects of medications, particularly those used in cardiovascular diseases, infectious diseases, neurological and mental health conditions. Her research work is funded internationally by Diabetes UK, AIR@InnoHK, PharmAlliance, and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.

Professor Li Wei

Professor of Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety Research, UCL School of Pharmacy

Li Wei is Professor of Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety Research, and Head of the Research Department of Practice and Policy at UCL School of Pharmacy.

She joined the Research Department of Practice and Policy in July 2012. Prior to moving to London, she was a lecturer in epidemiology and medical statistics in the Medicines Monitoring Unit, University of Dundee, and had intensive research experience in pharmacoepidemiology and drug safety research using UK primary care data such as MEMO and CPRD databases.

She undertook an MRC special training fellowship in health services and health of the public research with Professor Tom MacDonald and Professor Tom Fahey at the University of Dundee.
